Continuing the plot of the first volume of the Our Mother trilogy, The Director, Armina and Gil leave with a group of scientists for the Arctic, where all the action of the novel takes place. This book is dedicated to the Inuit people, inspired by their traditions and culture, and is divided into chapters named in that language. The environmental problems in the Arctic, due to global warming, are experienced by the entire team, who suffer dramatically during the course of the expedition and are exposed to the risks of one of the most threatened and dangerous ecosystems on the planet. The polar bear, an endangered animal, is one of the protagonists of this novel, as well as the sea and the whales, as in the first volume of the trilogy. The narrative is permeated by mythological references, such as the title itself, Gelos, the name of the Greek god of laughter, and magical-fantastic ambiances.
